A part of artist statement…

‘…My current piece of Art is doubtless the most important of all I have created up to now. What makes it so special is the fact that I have discovered my sons’ inner self, the way he thinks and understand his surroundings. I have ‘hear’ his needs and I have gather so many information about my son that it will lead me just to become a better and more intellectual artist in a sense of thinking and exploring things, but the most important of all it will make me a better father; a father that understands and knows his sons needs…’

3W22 – Thoughts

25 05 2008

I was thinking the way I want to make the presentation of my work at my location. Firstly I thought to make the show at my my own office on a big LCD screen and the laptop on the side.

After I had some chat with friends about my idea of presenting my work, Aris told me ‘why dont you make your work mobile…?’ and put me into thoughts.

What if I just take my work to the viewers instead of coming to me? I should just take the laptop and go around and present my work to several people…and maybe I can have some kind of comments form to complete.

This is something I should sleep on it and think about it.

3W21 – Essay / statement

25 05 2008

This week was completely devoted to write my essay / artist statement. Even though I was working until late at work, because of the Champions League Final, plus the Olympics 2008 I found my self spending several hours on the essay.

It is strange some times how an actual piece of work can make you so concentrate that you loose track of time. I have almost finish the first part (artist statement) and I need to start working on the explanatory comment and critical evaluation of my own work in the context of current creative practice and reflection.

Storyboard Artist – From Wikipedia

Storyboard artist (sometimes referred as story artist) is a profession specialized in creating storyboards for advertising agencies and film productions.

A storyboard artist is able to visualize any stories using quick sketches on paper at any moment. Quick pencil drawings and marker renderings are two of the most common traditional techniques, although nowadays Flash, Photoshop, and other storyboard applications are gradually taking over. The digital camera is one of the latest techniques in creating storyboards.

A storyboard artist is also known as an illustrator or visualizer. They are mostly freelance artists, typically hired by art directors and film directors. Deadlines are always tight, and overnight working is very common.

The most frequently used storyboard applications are Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. Some storyboard artists nowadays begin and finish their work on computers using drawing software and digital pencils like Wacom (Graphics tablet), thus saving time, which is a major priority for a storyboard artist.

For motion pictures, some filmmakers prefer that artists use computer programs designed to create frame-accurate storyboards such as FrameForge 3D Studio. Programs such as Poser and DAZ Studio can also be used to create very accurate storyboards.

Storyboard artists have different goals and methods:

  1. In advertising, the storyboard artist must not only create an accurate representation of what the TV commercial will look like but also create fine art that will appeal to the client who must buy the concept.
  2. Normally, when a storyboard artists is hired by a motion picture company, the storyboard artist must break the scene down into shots which can be filmed. Therefore, the storyboard artist must know all of the technology of filmmaking as well as being a good artist.
  3. Sometimes, a motion picture production company will hire a storyboard artist to create beautiful and exciting works of art that can be used by the executive producer to raise millions of dollars. In this case, the storyboard artist must be a fine artist or commercial illustrator. Filmmaking background is not important.
  4. And some storyboard artists must be able to create fully frame-accurate storyboards for very precise planning of the filming a motion picture. In this case, 2D images are not good enough. The storyboard artist must be able to work with 3D animation software or specially designed 3D previsualization programs which simulate a motion picture camera on a 3D model of the movie set. In this case, the storyboard artist might not draw anything but rather use the 3D program to do all of the drawing.

3w20 – Presentation

25 05 2008

This week I had my colloquium presentation. I had some great responses and questions. Overall people liked it and the feedbacks where very productive and well thought. I believe at this stage, I can say that we have succeed to deliver our best of our self in this final presentation before the final show.

The only thing that worries me, is that I have just a very few chances to go to the actual show, because of my work 😦 .

I have also start working on my essay and I just find my self short of time. Well I guess after all thats one of the biggest challenge in the duration of my master degree.

Final Project

I have upload also my final web site at dot-studios.com/create where I have include the info part as well after a short experiment of just letting people to guess what is the site all about

3W19 – Colloquium

25 05 2008

This week I spent my time working on my colloquium. I’ve tried make a bit more ‘live’ presentation rather just text and voice over; so I’ve shoot my self on a green screen background and then I import all the materials to after effects.

I’ve made the composition of the material in after effects, and then I’ve exported the pieces in premiere where I’ve edit the video and sound to complete the final piece

In general I’m pretty happy with the result, even though I had some technical problems with green screen. The solution that I found is by painting green, a corner in my living room and lighting the background.

…by the way…my wife liked the color, and I had to paint the whole living room at the end 😉

3W13 – Working on Images

28 04 2008

3W18 – Exhibit Space

28 04 2008

I have been trying all this week to find a space to set up my exhibit. I have finally decide to run the show in my office where I can setup a camera to record the show and I have a space to setup a laptop on a big screen. Actually it is a nice place and I will have more control on several aspects of the show.

I start building out some PCs to try out if its better to have 2-3 simultaneously people viewing my work on 2-3 monitors. Still can’t  decide  if I like to have just one viewer/user at a time.
