2W19 Storyboard – Research

Interactive storyboard

This term I will focus my research mainly on what is an interactive storyboard, and in general, what is a storyboard. I found a lot of books about storyboard but none on interactive storyboard. Even on the web I couldn’t find a lot of info. After a lot of research I came across 2 web sites where they have some kind of an interactive storyboard.

The 1^st web site (http://www.plugincinema.com/plugin/film_school/interactive.html ) it is just a random creation of a sequence of images where you can add your text every time on the site of the images so you have a new story every time. You don’t really interact with the sequence of the images, thus it makes it rather limited as it comes of interactivity. The input of the audience is nothing but the text he writes and hitting the refresh button on his browser.

As it comes to the 2^nd web site (http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk/storyboards/blitz.shtml guided), again we have a premade of a bunch of images where the user can change them to create a 6 pictures storyboard. This is more a historical exercise thinking and explaining why Nazi Germany bombed British cities in 1940-41.

What is a storyboard?

While I was researching about what is a storyboard I came across this web site http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/adrian_mallon_multimedia/story.htm , a very detailed and explanatory site. It has a section referring to interactive storyboard as well “Content writing is an unpredictable phase at best. Why doing a storyboard?

… and finally why anyone would like to do a storyboard? Well there are many reasons why someone wants to do a storyboard. Here are some points that I found out from http://multimedia.journalism.berkeley.edu/tutorials/reporting/starttofinish/storyboarding/ .

A storyboard is a sketch of how to organize a story and a list of its contents.

A storyboard helps you:

• Define the parameters of a story within available resources and time
• Organize and focus a story
• Figure out what medium to use for each part of the story
